Isfahan is considered to be one of the centers of Persian carpet weaving, which stands out among dozens of similar crafts for its inimitable style. Today’s Isfahan artisans carefully preserve the ancient traditions of carpet weaving. Their wonderful pieces are often copies of the masterpieces of the Safavids era. The Isfahan style is immediatly recognizable by its distinctive floral patterns, with the most popular «Shah Abbas» botanical ornament. The leitmotif of this vivid and bright pattern is often combined with other elements - flowers in triangles, waving blossoms, arabesques imitating mosaics on mosques walls, medallions with images of places of worship or famous people portraits. In addition, a short pile and the so-called asymmetrical Persian knot are considered to be the special features of Isfahan carpets.
