Tabriz - the heart of Iranian Azerbaijan, the city of Tabriz was known as the center of carpet weaving since the early Middle Ages. For centuries, local carpets were famous throughout the Islamic East and silk carpets with gold and silver threads, woven with gemstones, adorned the Shah’s palaces. Nowadays, Tabriz artisans prefer realistic scenes in calm colour scale. At the same time, carpets are woven from a special hard wool, due to which the knitting is tighter. Knots are knitted not with fingers, but with the help of a special tool - a knife equipped with a hook. This method makes it possible to significantly increase the speed of weaving.
